The Beginning

The history of the internet provided a key piece of knowledge that resonated with me, and my own history of spam destroyed emails. The first piece of Spam, in 1994, just a mere 4 years after the creation of the internet. This instance of spam occurred as a result of an opportunity undertaken by a husband and wife law firm, who joined into the revelation and euphoria of the Green Card lottery, by offering their services to the immigrant communities fair and wide. With the underlying desire of immigration to the United States on offer, these internet innovators sensed an opportunity I guess.

USENET (Platform) -> Canter & Co. (Villain) -> Reason why we receive spam today!

The low down of this event saw would-be American citizens send their applications to this pioneering law firm in the hope of being a successful recipient of a quote unquote GOLDEN TICKET  . Its a concept that many wouldn’t believe over the internet nowadays, as everything an everything that seems to good to be true, usually is – ESPECIALLY when it comes to the anonymity and secrecy ever present online.

Social Media Marketing

I will proceed my writings with the fact, I am a video gamer, for the longest time i have enjoyed the escape that these provide and the enjoyment and jubilation i often feel when playing them. Unbeknown to me the platforms that i have enjoyed my games on such as Steam (My own steam profile) and the games i have actually played through these platforms are considered in todays world of technology as a facet of the larger being that is Social media.

Social Entertainment: A Cog in the Machine

I have put countless, well not countless 1668 hours to be exact, into Counter Strike Global offensive, a multiplayer fps game that i thought was mind numbing violence and a loose grasp of what a war simulation was destined to be. However in the recent year and reviewing this material for the purpose of this course, I have noticed the instances of high self presentation and high levels of media richness that inundates my forms of social media.
Self Presentation gives the user and opportunity amongst the heavily fluctuating player base, to feel different, segregated even from his or her counterparts, and may reflect a niche, desire or emotion that each user wishes to display. Steam, and CS:Go achieve these through the heavily fortified use of skins, that operate almost like an in-game currency the users can engage in to distinguish their relevant attributes. We create our persona, without even realising it. For example my active loadout? (Do i say that?) is the definition of a mess, with skins or visuals that i find attractive that coincide with trends amongst my online friendship circle and an underlying need to more than likely have the best gear at any given point.

A richness can be further reinforced by a CS:Go Blog (blogception) that is not only available in a handy little link i can direct you toward today, but further is a prevalent feature when users load into their game. Seen Below.

Hey mate, nice post! It’s awesome to see how digital marketing can be integrated into so many things, using social media within games gives the player a sense of personality, allowing them to express themselves into their character, enticing them to interact and communicate with others!
